Theater Lore & History
The Summer Drive-In originated in 1948 by future Holiday Inn founder Kemmons Wilson, and Malco moved it to its 31-acre Summer Avenue location in 1966 where it grew to four screens. Memphis' beloved ozoner closed permanently on May 18, 2025 after the site was listed for sale.
