Theater Lore & History
Built in 2012 in Ellis County, the El-Co Drive-In revives a Shattuck tradition — the original El-Co (short for Ellis County) opened in 1952 on South Main Street and ran until 1977. The modern single-screen venue operates seasonally on US-283 and was purchased by the Flaherty family in 2019, one year before COVID made drive-ins essential again.
