Theater Lore & History

The first drive-in theater in Anchorage, opened by Ed and Marie Hanby in September 1963 at the southern end of Muldoon Road. Named after the iconic Alaska good-luck charm, the 550-car Billiken opened with "Jet Pilot" and "Blue Hawaii" and closed September 12, 1976 — replaced by the Totem 8 indoor cinema on the same site.
